Divisions – Communication

Our dispatch center handles all incoming calls for the police and fire department. They are responsible for gathering information from the caller and relaying it to road personnel.

While answering 911 calls, printing reports, and dispatching to patrol, they also monitor police and fire bands from other area agencies to be aware of conditions or incidents that may affect Brecksville, such as traffic accidents or police pursuits.
Brecksville has five full time dispatchers, and two full time clerks.

In 2005, the communications center handled 16,668 calls that required police action, including 11,350 calls initiated by patrol. Of 4819 calls that came in via telephone, 925 were 9-1-1 calls for service. The remaining 499 calls came by citizens visiting the police station in person. This does not include the tens of thousands of calls for information our dispatches take yearly.

When you call the police

  • Speak calmly and clearly
  • Give your full name and phone number so we can call you back if we need more information
  • Be patient, the dispatcher may have an emergency on the next line
  • If you call 911 by accident, STAY ON THE LINE and let the dispatcher know it was an accident.
